From 1974 until 1976, Ted worked as a Contract Landman in East Texas, gaining his first experiences in courthouse title work and lease trades and negotiations.  In late 1976, Ted went to work for Herd Producing Company, L.P. as a Landman, and quickly progressed through the ranks as Vice President and Land Manager, Exploration Manager, and Executive Vice President, respectively.  He also served as Executive Vice President of Horizon Natural Gas Corporation, a wholly-owned pipeline subsidiary of Herd Producing Company, L.P.

In 1987, Ted became President and Chief Operating Officer of Destiny Oil & Gas, L.P., a small oil and gas exploration company involved in the acquisition and sale of drilling prospects in the East Texas Basin, the Mississippian Reef play in North Texas, and the Pennsylvanian play in New Mexico.

While at Destiny, Ted also served as Assistant Chairman of the Industry Affairs Committee of the AAPL (1989 - 1990).

In 1992, Ted left Destiny to serve as Certified Environmental Inspector and Representative in the Ark-La-Tex Area for Enact, L.P., an environmental firm providing complete service beginning with Phase I Environmental Inspections through Phase III, Cleanup and Remediation.  Also in 1992, he earned the designation of Certified Environmental Inspector (#8369).

1992 was also the year Ted founded Ted W. Walters & Associates, L.P., where he serves today as Owner and Broker.  He has led the organization from one or two Landmen and no office staff to over 150 Landmen and six office staff, from one office to four, and from serving the East Texas area to serving over a dozen states.  He is accomplishing his goal of building an organization that will continue to thrive long after he has moved on by creating the environment, building the structure and empowering the people who work with him.

JEREMY WHEAT

CHIEF OF OPERATIONS

Jeremy Wheat joined Ted W. Walters & Associates in February 2001.  Prior to his current role as Chief of Operations, he worked as a field landman, then Crew Leader, performing contract land work in East Texas, South Texas and Northwestern Louisiana for TWW.  In that role, he ran initial lease checks, did title research and curative, negotiated leases and prepared documents, developed prospect status reports, purchased right-of-ways or easements, settled surface damages and various other projects as required by various clients.

As TWW’s Chief of Operations, Jeremy is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the organization. Reporting directly to Ted, Jeremy plays the role of Human Resources Director, Chief Associate, Quality Control Officer and Client Liaison.  Jeremy helps others at TWW deliver measurable, cost-effective results that make the TWW vision a reality.  This requires a delicate balance of managing processes and people, installing systems, rules and regulations to make the organization run smoother and more efficiently, as well as removing bottlenecks from one segment of the operation which might impede the productivity of another.

Jeremy recruits, evaluates, interviews, hires, and determines compensation for the contract landmen joining the TWW crews.   Scaling the organization, directing the brokers, and developing a performance culture among a group of diverse, talented individuals are all a part of his human resources function.

In his role as Chief Associate, Jeremy is directly involved in the future of the organization.  He works with Ted and the TWW Associates to create strategic plans and implement new processes and approaches to achieve those plans.  He provides the brokers with a strong day-to-day leadership presence and he supports the Lead Brokers who are directly responsible for client projects and communication.

As Quality Control Officer, Jeremy works with others on the staff to cultivate the values of TWW within the organization and provide coaching, training, development and performance evaluation metrics.  As Client Liaison, he manages and cultivates existing client relationships to secure and expand recurring revenue streams.

Jeremy has been a Texas Notary Public and a Licensed Right-of-Way Agent since 2001.  He acquired the status of RPL (Registered Professional Landman) from AAPL in 2008.   He attended East Texas State University and is an active member of ETAPL, AAPL and FWAPL.   He and his wife Angela, live in Tyler with their two children, Jaylen and Braden.

LINDA RUSSELL

OFFICE MANAGER

Linda Russell has served as Office Manager for Ted W. Walters & Associates since 2004.  Born and raised in East Texas, she brought over twenty years of Accounting and Office Management experience to the company, where she is an invaluable part of the TWW team.

DONNA BRADY

LEAD BROKER

Donna Brady is a third generation “oil field brat” with both maternal and paternal grandparents in the business, so it is no wonder she was drawn to the industry in 2004.

Hailing from Lafayette, LA, Donna started her training as a landman with leasing, then moved on to curative and finally to preparing runsheets.  Her initial training was very rigorous, from understanding a standard Producers 88 lease form, running title, understanding all instruments, mapping manually and with deed plotter programs, to preparing various reports for the client, surveyor or title attorneys.  All had to be meticulously prepared and full understanding was expected before she could progress.   She also learned how to prepare staking packages and division orders.

Donna brought this knowledge and a perfectionist outlook to Ted W. Walters & Associates when she joined the firm in 2007.  She had an immediate and positive impact on the crews she worked with, and has quickly progressed from field landman to team leader to lead broker.  Donna is currently overseeing 23 landmen in Shiner, Texas.

Donna raised her two daughters in Brenham, Texas and became a proud grandmother in late 2010.  She lives in Tyler and is an active member of the East Texas Association of Petroleum Landmen, Houston Association of Petroleum Landmen, and the American Association of Petroleum Landmen.  Her long-term out-of-town assignments make community involvement a challenge, but she has years of community, church and school volunteer experience.  She is a Master Gardener, loves to paint and gives the occasional art lesson.

STUART BRANDON

LEAD BROKER

Stuart has been in the oil and gas business for over 16 years.  His first five years were in the oil field, where he worked as a Roustabout and as a member of a Drill Pipe Inspection Crew out of Palestine.  From there, Stuart worked for BJ Services in their Cement and Fracturing R&D Group out of Tomball.  He started his career as a Landman in Tyler in 2001 when he went to work for Brandon Energy/Basin Exploration.  After 2-1/2 years there, he worked with Brooks Petroleum in Palestine before joining Ted W. Walters & Associates in early 2005.  Stuart started out at TWW as a Field Landman, where he quickly applied his years of first-hand field and land experience to become a Lead Broker in early 2008.

Hailing from Houston, Stuart attended Stephen F. Austin State University, pursuing a degree in Communications, earned an Associates Degree in Computer-Aided Drafting from TSTI in Dallas, and studied Engineering at Tomball College.

Stuart has two children, a teenager and a preteen.

CLIFF BRATTON

LEAD BROKER

Cliff Bratton started his oil and gas career with Ted W. Walters & Associates in 2006.  He started out as a field landman, running title and buying leases throughout the state.  His conscientious nature and demonstrated leadership abilities quickly moved him to his current position as lead broker in 2009.  Cliff continues to hone his skills by taking advantage of continuing education courses offered by the American Association of Petroleum Landmen.

Cliff has been a member of the AAPL and the East Texas Association of Petroleum Landmen since 2008.  He is a licensed Right-of-Way Agent and a Notary Public for the State of Texas.

Cliff is from Pensacola, Florida; he now lives in Tyler, Texas with his wife April.

PAUL BREVARD

LEAD BROKER

Paul Brevard has been with Ted W. Walters & Associates since 2006.  He is responsible for leasing projects in both Texas and Louisiana, where he oversees and analyzes the daily activity of 8-10 contract landmen.  In addition, he is responsible for communicating status and progress to clients.

Before joining TWW, Paul spent the prior six years working as a Landman and Forest Technician for Phillip Baldwin in Marshall, TX, and as a Landman and Forest Consultant for Brevard Land Services.  In those roles, among other things, Paul ran surface and mineral title, assessed surface damages, worked with landowners on timber theft, acted as a tree farm consultant, and with the land management of timber.  This diversified background prepared Paul for the multitasking required by his current position, where he often manages multiple prospects at once.

Paul is a 2000 graduate of Panola College, where he earned the title of Forest Technician with a 4.0 GPA.  He is a member of the East Texas Association of Petroleum Landmen and the AAPL.  He is also a Right-of-Way Agent and Notary Public.  Outside of work, he keeps busy with the Carthage Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge 922 in Beckville, the Panola County Chamber of Commerce and the Panola County Cattlemen’s Association.  He serves on the Board for the Panola College Alumni Association in Carthage and is Co-Owner of Trophyroom Stables in Beckville.

If you want to get something done, ask a busy person:  Paul is also quite active in a number of charitable causes in East Texas.  He has served as President of Langley Cemetery Association since 2006, and has volunteered at nursing homes since 1982.  He ran for Panola County Commissioner in 2006, and was elected Board Member of Panola County Precinct #2 Freshwater District.

Paul’s wife, Amber, also works at TWW, and his father, R. W. Brevard, Jr.  is a retired Plant Foreman for Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America, where he served for 31 years.

BRENT DEDEAR

Walters & Associates since 2006.  He serves as a Lead Broker for the organization, bringing to the position extensive experience in oil company acquisitions, due diligence and curative work as well as all aspects of field land work.  Brent earned his degree in Ranch Management at Texas Christian University.  This education, combined with practical hands-on understanding of landowner issues, uniquely qualifies him to negotiate surface damages between landowners and oil and gas companies.  He is a licensed Right-of-Way Agent and a Notary Public.

Brent is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Landmen and the East Texas Association of Petroleum Landmen, as well as the TCU Ranch Management Alumni Association.  He served for two years on the Board of Directors for the 1,000-Acre Mineola Nature Preserve, and he currently serves as Vice President of the Lindale Gifted and Talented Association at the Lindale ISD.

Originally from Victoria, Texas, Brent has lived in East Texas since 2003 with his wife Rhonda and their five children.

DAN DUFFY

LEAD BROKER

Dan Duffy’s connection with Ted Walters dates back to the early 1970’s, when as young men they served together in the National Guard.  Dan was in charge of supply and Ted was the armor (in charge of the weapons, a scary thought for those of us who know him).

Before joining the Guard, Dan graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Business Marketing in 1969.  His first corporate job was with Tenneco, in their Marketing Department, but it did not take him long to get into the oil and gas side of the business:  by 1977, Dan was working as an Independent Petroleum Landman.  Based out of East Texas, he worked all over the Southeastern United States, primarily in East Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.  In the mid-1980’s, Dan went in-house with Wisenbaker Production Company, and then hit the road again as an Independent Petroleum Landman, working for majors such as Texaco, Mobil, Gulf, and Exxon.

Dan joined forces with Ted again in the earliest days of Ted W. Walters & Associates, where they worked together as landmen and as partners putting deals together through Sendero Resources.  Around 1995, Dan had the opportunity to enter the specialized field of Natural Gas Storage.  He spent 15 years traveling the US and building expertise in this niche market which utilizes depleted reservoirs and salt domes to store natural gas and hydrocarbon by-products.  He negotiated and was involved in the building of Greenfield projects, which involves purchasing surface rights, mineral rights and leasehold rights together with pipeline rights of ways for interconnect sites.  Dan was also involved in the process of due diligence to purchase and expand existing natural gas storage facilities.

In early 2011, Dan once again joined forces with TWW, leading a crew of Working Interest brokers in East Texas.

Dan has been a member of the American Association of Petroleum Landmen since 1977.  He is currently a member of The East Texas Association of Petroleum Landmen.  He has also served in the following capacities while he was a member of the East Texas Association of Petroleum Landmen:

Director – 1981 & 1982

Treasurer – 1982-1983

Secretary – 1983 -1984

2nd Vice President – 1984-1985

1st Vice President – 1985-1986

President – 1986-1987

Director – 1987-1988

While he was an officer of the ETAPL he was the editor of the ETAPL Industry Directory for two years.  His co-director of the Directory back then was Lew Duff, husband of Kathleen Duff, who is also a landman with TWW.  Dan is a notary public and has his ROW license (#487).

He is Catholic and belongs to the Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Flint, Texas.  He lives on Lake Palestine at Emerald Bay with his wife, Linda. He likes to play golf, ride his bike and travel with Linda in their motorhome.

Linda Gunter has been with Ted W. Walters & Associates since August 2005 and a project lead since early 2011.  Linda has been a licensed Texas Realtor since 1981 and active in real estate since 1999.  She worked at the Cherokee County Appraisal District in the early 1980’s, and then proceeded to serve as the Cherokee County Probate Clerk from 1986 until 1992.  From 1992 until 1999, Linda worked as a prison guard for Texas Department of Corrections.

THOMAS HAMBY

MAP & IT CONSULTANT

Thomas Hamby joined Ted W. Walters & Associates in January 2008 and quickly proved himself to be an integral part of the TWW team.  He serves as TWW’s map and IT consultant but is willing to help out with almost any task around the office, even if it doesn’t involve his normal job duties.

Thomas started a Surveying Degree at Tyler Junior College in 1999, but his night job working for GeoInfo, L.P. got him interested in mapping, and after one year studying Surveying, he switched to GIS and continued to develop his knowledge in that field.  At GeoInfo, Thomas started out learning the basics of producing and maintaining GIS data but quickly progressed past the knowledge level of his professor and decided to get more hands-on experience.  He soon became night manager at GeoInfo and managed several projects for that firm.

After maximizing his career opportunities at GeoInfo, Thomas moved to Plano in 2003 to work for True Automation, L.P., which is the fastest-growing tax and appraisal software company in Texas.  In his five years at True Automation, Thomas and his co-workers mapped over 40 counties and over a million ownership parcels.  With a former co-worker from GeoInfo, Thomas developed the largest map coverage area offices in Texas.

When Thomas heard Ted W. Walters & Associates was looking for a mapping guru in January of 2008, he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get back to East Texas near his family, and he has proven to be an invaluable part of the TWW team.

Thomas enjoys football, baseball, softball, tennis, racquetball, motorcycles, four-wheelers, personal watercraft, fishing and hunting, and just about every other activity that involves being outdoors.

LARRY TEDFORD

LEAD BROKER

Larry Tedford has been a landman with Ted W. Walters & Associates since June, 2006.  An East Texas native, Larry earned his Associates in Business degree from Tyler Junior College before pursuing a career in real estate sales and development.  After an eight year real estate career, Larry decided to take his real estate research capabilities to a new level and get into the oil and gas business.  His knowledge of the area and his background in real estate has made him a very effective landman.  He currently serves as Lead Broker responsible for leasing and title in East Texas for one of TWW’s largest clients.

In addition to his work as a landman, Larry is evolving into the TWW Public Relations Coordinator.  If you have ever attended one of TWW’s many barbeques or crawfish boils, you have probably seen Larry in the TWW cooking trailer.  He is an accomplished BBQ chef, having participated in the Go Texas BBQ Cookoff at the local level for around 20 years.  Go Texan is a part of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo; each county that participates receives scholarships for college-bound students in that area.  In 2010, Larry was invited to the “big tent”, as chief cook at the Houston event attended by over 200,000 people.  He has also manned the TWW cooking trailer at the East Texas Oil Men’s Chili Cookoff (winning 4th place out of 100), and has hosted a large BBQ for one of TWW’s crews in Shiner that was also attended by many of the local landowners.  He is the TWW liaison with local 4H and FFA groups as well.  He volunteers at the Briarcliff Nursing Home in Chandler, taking an active role in the Briarcliff Benefit Golf Tournament.  Larry also raises funds for charities by participating in the Make a Wish Sporting Clays Shoot and the Susan G. Komen Cancer Awareness Golf Tournament, among others.

Larry is an active member in the American Association of Petroleum Landmen and the East Texas Association of Petroleum Landmen.  He is a Registered Right of Way Agent and a Notary Public.

Larry and his wife Olivia live in Chandler.  They have three girls:  Katie, Karli and Madi.

CHARLOTTE THOMPSON

LEAD BROKER

Charlotte was the eighteenth person to join Ted W. Walters & Associates back in 2004.  Before coming to TWW, Charlotte had spent two years with the Smith County Tax Office, abstracting and tracking down delinquent taxpayers.  That experience served her well when she came to TWW, as she started out on a crew working with Jeremy Wheat doing title work.  And she quickly discovered that potential Lessors are much more willing to be “found” than delinquent tax payers, although sometimes it takes quite a bit of work to find them.

Charlotte now serves TWW as Lead Broker, overseeing the daily activities of a seven-person crew.  She is a Notary Public and a Licensed Right-of-Way Agent.  She is also a member of the East Texas Association of Petroleum Landmen.  She attended Tyler Junior College and now lives in Whitehouse.  She has two almost-grown children.
